Assassin's Creed Unveils Bizarre Attack on Titan Collaboration for Holiday Season
In a bizarre collaboration that breaks usual predictions, Ubisoft has unveiled an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, offering complimentary bonus story content for Shadows players.
Strange Questline Disclosed
According to the authorized announcement, "A strange encounter leads heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh mission, where hints of prohibited rituals and monstrous metamorphoses echo through the darkness." The storyline presents a "strangely dressed woman named Ada" who tasks the pair with journeying into the Crystal Cave—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her companion from a clandestine group.
The adventure centers on "bizarre trials and a terrifying enemy" and is open to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.
Iconic Settings and Metamorphoses
The teaser showcases the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was previously where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The preview ends with a striking sequence showing a character, presumably the prisoner, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.
Unique Rewards and Bonus Content
Players who finish the quest will obtain an exclusive katana together with multiple items hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features in-store Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:
- Titan-themed outfit for Yasuke
- Mikasa outfit for Naoe
- Unique implements
- Survey Corps mount
Newest Free Story Update
This release also adds the game's newest no-cost story episode, titled "The Enigma." This lighthearted mission pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they trade distinctive abilities: Naoe reveals a dramatic interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-fatal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Enigma" also contains a fresh environmental puzzle that may finally explain some lingering questions from the main storyline.
Previous Japanese Animation Partnerships
This signifies scarcely the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with famous anime series. The series earlier included a 2020 cross-promotional story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla subtly included a quest that clearly nodded to the popular series One-Punch Man.
