Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to go next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them little choice but to head to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Fans can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
