An extensive extended journey around the Australian Coast has been cancelled in the wake of the death of an older female passenger who was left behind by the ship on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been trekking on the remote island with other travelers from the vessel, but separated from the excursion for a pause. The vessel sailed away leaving her and came back after some time after the crew realised the woman was not present.

An extensive rescue mission found her person the following day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the incident, in coordination with investigators and the state coroner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the rest of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to coordinate the travel back of the passengers via private aircraft".

Officials also published an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a order to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from getting on the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the vessel in Cairns upon its coming back.

Timeline of Incidents

The liner initially left Cairns on October 24th, and was just two days into the voyage at the moment of the senior passenger's passing. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Travelers on the ship - who typically pay substantial amounts of dollars to join the voyage - were ferried there for a daily excursion with the option of trekking or snorkelling.

Relatives Reaction

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her loved ones was "shocked and distressed that the ship left the location after an planned tour without my mum".

Through her comments, she portrayed her mother as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a member of a hiking organization.

"From the little facts we have been informed, it seems that there was a breakdown of responsibility and common sense," she mentioned.

She added that she desired the examination would be able to identify what "the organization should have undertaken that might have protected Mum's existence".

"We understand from the authorities that it was a very hot afternoon, and mother fell ill on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"Officials suggested her to head down, alone. Then the ship left, reportedly without performing a passenger count.

"During some point in that chain of events, or not long after, mum succumbed, alone."

In a statement, the CEO affirmed that the organization was "working closely with investigators to aid their examination".

He stated that the company was "deeply sorry that this has occurred" and had provided its complete assistance to the relatives.

The liner caters for up to a hundred twenty guests with 46 personnel, according to official information. It was specially constructed to enter remote regions of the Australian coastline and is fitted with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to take individuals on land visits.

Incidents such as this are rare, and passenger vessels have protocols to document which travelers are embarking or disembarking, according to maritime specialists.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] on the ship just isn't an option," a specialist stated.

Cruise lines regard these procedures extremely carefully and have "sophisticated systems in place to prevent such occurrences from taking place," the specialist continued.
