Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
