Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
