The Details Known Concerning the Victims of the Bondi Shooting
A minimum of 16 people were killed and more than 40 sustained injuries when assailants opened fire at a Hanukah event at Bondi Beach, an incident local authorities have called a act of terrorism.
In the latest update, officials have stated the number of fatalities stands at 16, encompassing one of the alleged attackers. Moreover, 42 people with injuries were admitted to the hospital.
The victims are still awaiting formally identified, but police believe their ages range from 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger
Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Known as a father-of-five, he was the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and friends spoke of him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative asked.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their newest son just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, according to his wife.
She told the events before the attack, explaining they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He shielded me because he wished to be near me,” she said.
The couple were both Holocaust survivors, having endured unspeakable terror in their youth. They had subsequently immigrated to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
The French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
Publicly, a senior official declared that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the message read.
One Child
A young girl, aged 10 who was taken to the a children's hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, according to police reports.
One Israeli Citizen
An Israeli citizen was among those killed in the incident, according to reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people taken to hospitals, many remain under care, with a number in a critical state. Those hurt comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.
A wounded man is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to confront one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he received bullet wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Reports indicate he was hurt and is receiving treatment in hospital.
He wrote, he recounted the scene as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the response of those who came to assist. He said he believed it was a “miracle” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the attack. He described he heard “a large number” of shots.
“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I was hit. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
