The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror Merging Survival Horror and Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a unique game where a young woman containing multiple personalities inside her must escape from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Inside her exist four separate souls, each with their own anxieties and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy medical facility, though other scenes show the main character navigating a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to others can activate something primal inside us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are specific to every individual."

The central mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul surfaces at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily as you play. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by nurses all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the waiting room have large flowers where their necks are. Flowers are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the personas claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. But, since every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one standing could be a fraud. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
