This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
