Thousands Experiencing Electricity in South-East Queensland and Victoria Following Intense Storms

Around 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland woke up without power on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms passed over the region, generating wind gusts reaching 109km/h.

Substantial Hailstones and Widespread Damage

Locals observed giant hailstones as large as 7 centimeters in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that various areas across the state had been impacted by significant hail.

Response teams were working to restore electricity service throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams working to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Storm Challenges

At the same time, approximately 1,000 households in the southern state also faced electricity disruptions after the capital city saw its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

Rescue organizations received over five hundred emergency reports across the area, primarily for structural issues but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

At one point on yesterday, over 28k energy customers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were expected to linger along much of Queensland's east this next several days as a atmospheric system continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

The following day was forecast to be the wettest day, with ongoing storm activity anticipated across multiple regions of both states.

Safety Concern

Medical authorities cautioned that there was an greater possibility of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.
