Tom Clancy's The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG
The gritty universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a dice-based role-playing experience. A collaboration has been formed to develop a TTRPG set within the franchise’s apocalyptic setting. The project was revealed, with a crowdfunding campaign planned to launch in April of 2026.
"This endeavor aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the table, offering fans a new way to experience The Division through deep narrative and mission-based gameplay," reads an official release.
Initial offerings will include a starter set, essential manuals, a Game Master screen, figurines, and several premium versions.
Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this universe, a lethal pathogen called Green Poison was released in New York City, sending the United States into turmoil. As the crisis worsens, society crumbles and violent factions emerge, transforming the urban landscape into a warzone. To preserve order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of sleeper agents. That’s where the players enter the story.
Development on the RPG has been underway for about three years, and it is reportedly complete. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will function as a preorder system to reach a broader market, particularly in North America. Production will start right after the fundraiser, with deliveries expected for later in 2026.
An Innovative Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
A preview at the system reveals it uses 10-sided dice exclusively through its proprietary GRIS system, promoting a fast-paced and tactical approach. Players use skills or traits to assemble small dice pools, typically between one and five d10s.
- Instead of summing the total, players select a single “resolution die” from the pool.
- This die is then measured against a set challenge number.
- Rolling a natural 10 triggers special effects, such as extra damage or boosted support.
Combat Focus On Positioning and Situational Insight
Fights stress positioning and situational awareness, reflecting the source material. Factors like taking cover, height advantage, or visibility directly influence dice rolls. This mechanic is designed to favor teamwork and clever tactics over simple statistics.
A Thematic Wound System
The way injuries is managed introduces a compelling thematic twist. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits reduces their effectiveness by lowering the size of their dice pool.
- At zero health, an agent collapses, but is not knocked out.
- They can still move and perform restricted acts, emulating the "downed" state common to many shooter games.
- Any player in this state must roll on a injury chart, risking lingering conditions like trauma or crippling injuries.
An Introductory Scenario
A publicly available introductory rulebook will be released soon. It includes a ready-to-play starting adventure called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, players lead the search for a missing medical team and work to stop an attack by the violent Rikers gang, who have taken over that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the complete product lineup are expected to be unveiled closer to the campaign launch.
